Mount Laurel itself was established in the 1800s as a small community and has kept that idyllic charm in its landscapes and feel. The area was home to the Lenni-Lenape Indians. Residents in Mount Laurel Township are still finding American Indian artifacts on their own properties.

The family of William Evan settled on the hill that became known as Mount Laurel in the late 1600s. William's son donated land to the Society of Friends who built the Friends Meeting House with the help of the Indians. Sandstone from the Jersey mount was used and the Meeting House is the oldest Meeting House in the country and is still in use.

The Friends Schoolmaster's House was built across the street from the Friends Meeting House and has the original brick structure built in 1859. Jacob's Chapel was built in 1859 and was part of the Underground Railroad. Farmer's Hall was built in 1866 and was used as the Town Hall for over sixty years.

With this kind of history and the gorgeous environment of Mount Laurel, residents enjoy a unique heritage combined with beautiful modern additions.
